STYSA Spring Cups Just Around the Corner

Spring competitions are just around the corner. The pitch will soon be lush and green from the rye planted in November and teams are getting ready to prove themselves against the top teams in South Texas.

South Texas Youth Soccer crowns a State Champion in its four Spring Cups each year from Under-11 through Under-19 in both boys and girls. The STYSA Spring Cups are State Competitions that operate under different rules from your association league rules. These rules can be found in the STYSA Cup Manual.

The South Texas Cup is a developmental level State competition restricted to South Texas-registered Division II and Division III boys’ and girls’ teams in the U11 through U19 age groups. Separate competitive and recreational flights are offered and state champions from both flights will be crowned. The first- and second-place teams from the District Championships on April 30-May 1 will advance to the South Texas Cup State Championships on May 7-8, 2011, at Meyer Park in Houston. There is no advancement beyond the South Texas State Cup State Championships.

The Directors Cup is a restricted-entry competition for Super II and Division II teams that participated in the Fall season. It is strongly recommended for lower Super II and upper Division II teams. STYSA Directors Cup State Championship will be held at 5 Mile Park in San Marcos, Texas on May 14-15, 2011. There is no advancement to Regional or National competitions.

The Presidents Cup provides a progressive, competitive experience for South Texas boys’ and girls’ teams in lower Division I and Upper Super II in the Under-13 through Under-17 age groups, with advancement to state, regional and national events. The US Youth Soccer Regional and National Presidents Cup events give players an opportunity to compete against teams from across the country and provides them a chance to experience a unique US Youth Soccer event with camaraderie, community and high-level competition. The South Texas Presidents Cup State Championship will be held at Lindsey Lyons Park in Humble on May 21-22, 2011. The US Youth Soccer Regional Presidents Cup will be held in Decatur, Ala., June 10-12, 2011, and the US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup will be held in Des Moines, Iowa, July 7-10, 2011.

The South Texas USYSNC State Cup, part of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series, is the granddaddy of all of the spring cups. Players in the Under-13 through Under-19 age groups on the top US Youth Soccer teams compete in the 55 state-level competitions to earn a slot in one of the four US Youth Soccer regional championships. From the 60 teams nationwide that advance into the US Youth Soccer National Championships, 12 will be crowned National Champions.

The South Texas State Cup Championships will be held at 5 Mile Park in San Marcos on May 28-30, 2011. The Southern Regional Championships will be held in Murfreesboro, Tenn., June 16-22, 2011. The US Youth Soccer National Championships will be held in Phoenix, Ariz., July 26-31, 2011.

Annually, the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series provides the nation's top collegiate coaches with the premier stage to identify and scout the most coveted players in the country.
