San Antonio TOPSoccer Festival

The fourth annual TOPSoccer Festival was held Saturday, March 2, at the Star Soccer Complex. With the help of Star Soccer Complex, San Antonio Scorpions, Morgan's Wonderland, NEYSO Special Teams, and South Texas Youth Soccer, we had a successful event for all of the athletes participating at this year's event.

TOPSoccer is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with special needs. The program, designed and administered by US Youth Soccer and its volunteer TOPSoccer Committee, provides meaningful learning, development and physical participation opportunities to these young athletes through the game of soccer.

Athletes, volunteers and coaches were full of energy and excitement. Bob Wilde, STYSA ODP Coach; and John Tomas, Former Assistant National Director of US Youth Soccer; were joined by local club and college coaches.

They got the Athletes started by having them and their Buddy simply kick the balls. Then, the coaches led the players and buddies through a series of skills demonstrations, activities and games. The players performed and practiced a series of techniques like dribbling, push passes, knee passes, and various types of freestyle passes. The day also included other fun ball activities and games. Players and volunteers were welcomed and encouraged by Gordon Hartman, founder of Morgan's Wonderland.

TOPSoccer events are not possible without the participation of many, many volunteers. Special thanks to each and every one!
