South Texas Teams Named President's Cup Regional Champs

The goal of teams participating in the 2011 South Texas Youth Soccer Association President's Cup was to earn a spot in the 2011 US Youth Soccer Region III President's Cup in Decatur, Ala., the weekend of June 10-12. Eleven teams accomplished their goal and made the trip across the country to match their skills with teams from the other 12 Region III state associations.

Advancing teams were:

  • BU13 – El Paso Cobras 98 Red
  • BU14 – EDDOA SB Select 96/97 Club Mexico
  • BU15 – EDDOA Houston Express 96B Navy
  • BU16 – Capitol Area UHO Vipers 95B
  • BU17 – WDDOA SA Fusion FC 94B
  • GU13 – Alamo Area SA United 98G Gold
  • GU14 – EDDOA LAFC Houstonians 97G
  • GU15 – EDDOA Texas Rush Nike 95/96
  • GU16 – EDDOA AHFC 95G Blue
  • GU17 – EDDOA AHFC 94G Blue
  • GU17 – Rio Valley 94 Celtic Gold

Seven of the eleven teams were successful in reaching the championship round, with five earning the coveted gold medal.

BU15 Houston Express 96B Navy fell in a hard-fought 1-0 championship match against Florida's Miami Beach Soccer. The GU17 AHFC 94G Blue were edged out in a 3-2 decision against Georgia's BYSA Galaxy 94 Gold.

The El Paso Cobras 98 Red earned the title of Regional Champions in the Under-13 age group, which concluded with regional play.

Regional Championships were won, meanwhile, by the BU14 SC Select 96/97 Club Mexico, GU14 LAFC Houstonians 97G, GU15 Texas Rush Nike 95/96 and the GU16 AHFC 94G Blue.

The four champions qualified to advance to the US Youth Soccer President's Cup National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, in July. Two of the four South Texas teams advanced to the championship round, losing in tightly contested matches.
